Definition of Work:
The Missouri Board of Law Examiners oversees the administration of the bar examination and evaluates the character, fitness, and eligibility of all applicants aspiring to join the bar in Missouri. This role involves a range of complex tasks, including investigation, correspondence, analysis, and reporting, all conducted under direct supervision.Responsibilities:
- Conducts thorough and objective analyses of documents from background investigations to evaluate applicants' character and fitness. This includes arrest records, academic transcripts, court documents, financial statements, and bar grievance records.
- Initiates communication through written correspondence and phone calls with third-party sources to gather sufficient information that aids in evaluating an applicant's character and fitness.
- Reviews applications and associated documents for any inconsistencies or missing information, following up as necessary.
- Aids in the preparation and administration of the bar examination held twice a year.
- Supports the bar enrollment ceremonies, which take place twice annually.
- Performs other duties or special projects as needed.

- Must exercise sound judgment in determining need for additional information.
- Maintain strict confidentiality concerning all information pertaining to applicant files, communications, policies, and procedures.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Communicate with applicants, staff, and others in a respectful and courteous manner.
- Cultivate and sustain effective working relationships.
- Follow established procedures, meet defined standards, and perform efficiently under time constraints and deadlines to carry out investigations as authorized or directed by supervisors.
- Effectively learn and utilize a multifaceted custom database for generating letters, reports, and various other documents.
- Apply the Rules Governing Admission to the Bar in Missouri when evaluating applications and addressing specific questions from applicants.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business, criminal justice, administration, or a related field. Equivalent substitutions may be accepted in lieu of education, such as additional experience evaluated on a year-for-year basis.
Salary and Benefits:
Starting annual salary up to $48,000 depending on experience and qualifications. This full-time position is eligible for employer-sponsored retirement plan; health, vision and dental insurance benefits; along with sick and annual leave accruals.
