Career Opportunity: Staff Counsel – Missouri Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel

Position Description: 

The Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel (OCDC) is the agency established by the Supreme Court of Missouri to handle ethical complaints involving lawyers. In this interesting and important position, staff counsel investigates allegations that an attorney has violated the Rules of Professional Conduct and prosecutes those cases where a lawyer’s misconduct poses a threat to the public or to the integrity of the legal profession. Cases are presented to hearing panels and in the Supreme Court.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • An understanding of effective investigative practices and trial procedures.
  • Proven writing skills based upon experienced litigation is highly desired.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement regarding investigative information.

Educational and Licensing Requirements:

  • Law degree.
  • Current license to practice in Missouri or an ability to obtain one within six months of appointment.

Salary and Benefits:

Annual salary range is $80,000-$88,000 depending upon experience. OCDC has a collegial work environment and a generous benefits package.  OCDC is an agency of the Supreme Court of Missouri, but this is not a position with the State of Missouri.

Location:

This position is located in Jefferson City, Missouri, and includes an opportunity for limited remote work.
