After the notice of appeal and supplemental filings are filed, Judge Gary Gaertner, Jr., the settlement judge, screens all civil cases and selects those that the judge determines are appropriate for possible settlement. Once a case is placed on the settlement docket, the time requirements for ordering the record on appeal and filing the record and briefs may be suspended. If settlement efforts fail, the case is returned for regular processing. The policy of the Court of Appeals is that no information about any case selected and processed for settlement shall be disclosed to any other judge.
