Judge Fischer employs two law clerks for two-year terms, running from August 1 to July 31.  A new clerk is added each year to ensure he has one clerk with experience at all times. All law clerk positions are filled through July 31, 2026. The next law clerk opening is for the 2026-2028 term. Judge Fischer is not currently accepting law clerk applications for that term. Law clerks are expected to take the Missouri bar examination. Judge Fischer may employ summer interns or externs for special projects. The summer interns or externs are not compensated.

Judge Fischer accepts law clerk applications from law students who have completed their third semester of law school. Interviews are held in May and June. Applicants should submit a resume, law school transcript, writing sample and three letters of recommendation.

Applicants must be members of the law review or law journal; and in the top 15 percent of their class. Preference will be given to applicants who attended a law school in Missouri or who are native Missourians.

Not all applicants are interviewed. Decisions as to which candidates are interviewed are dependent on the strength of the application materials — resume and writing sample.
